Rare Niello Paperclip Link Chain (17")

Niello jewellery is rare to begin with, a technique of decorating silver where etches and channels in the silver are filled with a black enamel-like concoction to create a beautiful black and silver design. In this case, the classic striped niello that was popular across Europe. The silver niello links are then classically interspersed with copper-plated silver links to create a tri-tone effect, as we can see here. And it's so blooming cool!! 
 
But then add to that the link shape - typically we see Figaro-style chains with niello detailing - but this is a paperclip chain. A total first for me and I adore it. 
 
This piece is finished with the two niello-detailed antique dog clips. It's so special to find a piece like this with original dog clips, so often they've been lost or replaced. 
 
Niello jewellery is delicate so please treat her with care, keep her away from harsh chemicals, try not to wear her in the shower, and definitely never swim in her. This is good advice for all antiques, and especially niello.
